Scripture
Psalm 130
1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
2 O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness;
therefore you are feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
7 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.

Reflection

Life is hard. Whether you've been at it for twenty years or ninety,
there are times when it feels impossible to just take the next step
forward. However, while we sit and despair, there is hope; there is
help. The psalmist cries out to his Lord from these depths in hopes
of mercy, forgiveness, and redemption.
Lost in the sins of this world, he cannot find a way out.
Remember that these sins are not always the things we would be scolded
for as children. The worry and anxiety that we devote so much of
ourselves to can be just as destructive. Remember to relax in the
peace of God's redemption. Remember his unfailing love. Remember to
ask for his help and to give this help to others. Tomorrow may not
seem so bad, after all.
What oxygen is to the lungs, such is hope to the meaning of life.
-Emil Brunner, Swiss theologian (1889-1966)
