Scripture
Mark 6:6b-7
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. 7Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil[a] spirits.
Reflection
Jesus sends the disciples out to do some tough work in these verses, but he sends them out with some pretty good advice. First off, he sends them out in Noah-style, two by two. Jesus knows the significance of having a support system in whatever form of ministry is in your bath be it on Wall Street or mains street. It reminds me of a book I read when I was younger called “Everything I Needed to Know I learned in Kindergarten.” This book gave advice to the grownups of the world in a very practical kindergarten set fashion. The author tells that when we go out into the world we should “Have a buddy, hold hands and look both ways.” This is the advice that Jesus seemed to want his disciples then to hear and I think it is important for us to hear today. Go in to the world but take a friend because the world can be a tough place.
Dear God,
Bless us with good friends and mentors to be a support system for us as we follow your call for us in our lives.
